The Age Of Your Water Heater

Today’s water heaters require little to no maintenance at all. This is not the case for older models. The life expectancy of a hot water heater is usually 8-12 years depending on the size, manufacturer, and the quality of going into the heater. If you are no longer receiving the hot water that you need and your water heater is not a late model heater, you probably need to consider upgrading to a newer model.

There are indicators that will tell you it is time to purchase a new water heater. You can check around the base of the water heater for small water leaks. These leaks can easily go unnoticed as the heat from the water heater evaporates most of the moisture making it hard to see without strong lighting. In certain situations, a hot water heater may simply crack or leak in a joint which can cause major flood damage if not caught quickly. It is best to check your water heater at least twice a year for leaks and also to know the age of your heater. More often than not, there is a metal plate on the side of water heaters that contain such information. Sometimes the information is stamped directly into the metal side of the water heater itself.
