In fact, standardized plumbing systems, such as the aqueduct system in the image above, have been around for thousands of years. For example, the inhabitants of the Indus River Valley, which is today’s regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and part of India, used underground pipes to transport waste out of their cities. The pipes moved waste material away from the cities and into the Indus River to be carried far from inhabitants. They used this system over 5,000 years ago! Of our unknown plumbing facts, it is truly impressive to think of this technology being used so many years ago.
